Local Rules for the Use of the Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopes

The Departmental Confocal Facility is used for the fluorescent imaging of biological specimens. These local rules cover normal use of the lasers in the Departmental Confocal Facility. They apply to the 12 lasers connected to the Leica SP Upright (S/N: 172046), Leica SP5 Upright (S/N: 5100000515) and Leica SP5 Inverted (S/N: 5100000889) confocal microscopy systems. Please note that these local rules specifically exclude the spinning disk/ablation system in room T13E. Please see separate local rules and risk assessments for (a) the normal operation and (b) the maintenance and alignment of the spinning disk/ablation system. These local rules implement the University's laser safety policy at a practical level and form part of the University's duties under Section 2(3) of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974.

Local laser safety rules for use of the spinning disk microscope and ablation system

These local rules cover the use of the lasers in the spinning disk and ablation confocal microscopy system. These rules cover normal use only. Please see separate risk assessment and local rules for maintenance and alignment of this system.

Local rules for the maintenance of the spinning disk microscope and ablation system

These local rules cover the maintenance and configuration of the spinning disk and ablation confocal microscopy system. They cover the alignment of the constituent lasers and the replacement of dye in the miniature dye laser. Please see separate risk assessment and local rules for normal use of this system.
