As some of you will be aware, there is an intermittent fault with the
touch screen on the upright SP5. Occasionally the screen becomes blank,
stops responding to touch, but remains illuminated. Unfortunately the
touch screen cannot be replaced on-site and so the microscope stand will
have to be returned to the Leica factory for repair. Leica should be
able to loan us a microscope stand while ours is being repaired, so
downtime should be limited to a couple of days.
The repair work hasn't been scheduled yet and may be a few weeks away.
In the meantime, if you are unlucky enough to encounter the problem with
the touch screen you will need to restart the microscope by following
1. Save data and shutdown LASAF software
2. Lower stage and remove slide
3. The microscope has a control box underneath the anti-vibration table.
Switch off the microscope using the rocker switch on the front of this
control box, then wait at least 10 seconds before switching it back on
4. Restart LASAF software
